Key handover has a direct impact on holiday-rental operations. Late arrivals, schedule changes and lost copies require additional coordination with the guest and may lead to an in-person visit.
Smart locks for holiday rentals allow temporary access to be managed without handing over a physical key. For holiday-rental use, it must be compatible with the door, support codes with defined start and end times, provide reliable remote control and retain a fallback if connectivity or batteries fail. The cost should include every required accessory, not only the lock itself.
Look at the door before looking at models
Most of these locks sit on the inside and turn the existing key or cylinder. That makes the installation discreet and often reversible, but two similar-looking doors can behave very differently.
Check the cylinder type, the space around the key and whether the handle has to be lifted before locking. Find out whether the cylinder can still be opened from outside when a key is inserted on the inside. Without an emergency or double-clutch cylinder, the internal key may prevent the physical spare from working.
That would be an inconvenience at home. With a guest arriving that night, it becomes an emergency. If compatibility is uncertain, a photograph is not a replacement for a locksmith checking the door.
Nuki, Yale or Tedee: a useful holiday-rental comparison
We compared four options sold in Spain that can be fitted without changing the outside appearance of many doors. Prices came from the manufacturers' websites and were checked on 21 August 2026, so later promotions may differ. The comparison focuses on what happens between one booking and the next rather than on decorative features.
| Model | Remote access | Entry without a phone | Price checked | We would consider it for… |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Nuki Smart Lock Pro |
Built into the Pro model | Optional keypad | €269; keypad extra | Automating a new code for every stay |
Yale Linus L2 |
Built in | Optional keypad | €239.99; keypad bundle €312.98 | A balanced Yale setup at a moderate price |
Tedee PRO |
Requires Tedee Bridge | Optional keypad | €607 with Bridge and Keypad PRO | Prioritising size and finish over price |
Yale Linus L2 Lite |
Bluetooth as standard; compatible accessory needed for remote control | Optional keypad | €125 | Occasional stays with someone nearby |
The choice depends on arrival frequency and the management model. A property with daily changeovers, an external cleaning team and out-of-hours arrivals requires more automation than a home with only a few bookings each month.
Nuki Smart Lock Pro: the strongest fit for access automation
Nuki fits particularly well when every booking needs its own access permission. The Smart Lock Pro was €269 when checked and includes remote connectivity. A compatible Keypad is needed if guests are to enter with a code.
Its main advantage for a holiday rental is the management of permissions with defined start and end times. This avoids sharing a permanent code and reduces the work of changing it manually after every departure.
BnCheck integrates with Nuki for accounts using the Smart Hosting service. The host links the lock to a property and can prepare a code associated with the booking, valid only for the stay. The guest receives it as part of the check-in process without installing the Nuki app.
The integration cannot correct mechanical problems with the door or prevent incidents caused by a flat battery. The installation should include a physical emergency key and a defined access procedure for maintenance.
If you choose Nuki, BnCheck has the referral code REF-iT9zM7sLSS, which provides a 10% discount when accepted by the manufacturer's current promotion. It is a commercial code; it does not affect our assessment or replace a compatibility check.
Manage temporary codes alongside check-in
With Nuki Smart Hosting, BnCheck can associate a time-limited code with each stay and provide it as part of the check-in process.
Create a BnCheck accountYale Linus L2: a well-balanced alternative
The Linus L2 is particularly relevant for installations that already use Yale products or prioritise a widely available lock brand. Its listed price was €239.99, while the keypad bundle was €312.98. A holiday-rental comparison should use the full bundle price, as the keypad allows guests to enter without a key or app.
Remote connectivity is built in and access can be managed through the Yale app. The choice between Yale and Nuki depends less on a few features on paper than on the system used to manage bookings. If code creation and expiry remain manual, include that work in the calculation when there are ten or twenty arrivals a month.
Tedee PRO: compact and refined, at a much higher price
Tedee PRO stands out for its small size and restrained appearance on the inside of the door. The lock was listed at €399. Remote management required the €79 Bridge, and a Keypad PRO for code or fingerprint entry added €129. The complete setup used in this holiday-rental comparison therefore comes to €607.
The higher price may be justified in premium accommodation where size and interior finish are important. Across several apartments, the additional investment should correspond to a specific operational benefit.
Yale Linus L2 Lite: what the lower price involves
At €125, the L2 Lite is appealing as a starting point. Its standard connection is Bluetooth, so remote control requires a compatible accessory. That may be perfectly reasonable for an occasional-use property, but the total needs recalculating if the goal is to unlock the door or change permissions from another city.
The comparison should include every component required for the intended use: lock, keypad, remote connection, fitting and spare batteries.
Checks before putting the lock into service
The lock should be installed and tested in advance. Check access without Wi-Fi, create a temporary code for another person, review the low-battery warnings and confirm that the emergency key opens the door from outside.
A complete test stay should also be run through the system: check-in form, code generation, entry and permission expiry. This identifies problems with the lock, the signal by the door or the instructions sent to the guest.
A smart lock does not replace check-in
The code opens the door, but it does not collect traveller details, obtain signatures or report a stay to SES Hospedajes. They are two parts of the same guest journey. If access should follow the collection of the necessary data, our check-in app for Spanish holiday apartments keeps the booking, registration and arrival instructions in one workflow.
There is no single “best smart lock” for every holiday rental. Nuki Pro currently offers the most direct fit for code automation in many operations; Yale Linus L2 is a sensible alternative on price and availability, while Tedee PRO competes where size and finish matter particularly strongly. The right decision begins with the door and ends with the way the next arrival is actually managed.
